Removal of giant glial brain tumor

At the National Center for Neurosurgery, the most complex neurosurgical operations are performed every day. One of these operations was performed on a 44-year-old man with a glial brain tumor measuring 7 * 7 cm. Previously, the patient complained of headaches, dizziness, decreased vision, memory loss, weakness in the left extremities, and seizures.

Doctors believe that such a tumor size is very large and carries great risks to the patient's health. The patient was diagnosed with a giant glial tumor of the right frontal lobe with invasion into the corpus callosum in the stage of clinical decompensation. Doctors of the Department of Brain Neurosurgery performed a 6-hour operation "Craniotomy of the right fronto-parietal-temporal bone, microsurgical removal of a glial tumor using MRI tractography and neuronavigation." The operation was successful, the tumor was removed completely.

“The size of the tumor was huge, it strongly squeezed the brain. We had to separate the healthy tissue by millimeters. In addition, we bypassed the pathways of the vital vessels of the brain. It was important here not to damage these zones. Taking aim at the tumor, we carefully bypassed the motor zones, as well as the large arteries. Also, the accuracy of tumor removal depended on the coordinates that were built in advance using MRI tractography - this is a new technique that shows the course and structural changes of the pathways of the brain (white matter tracts), in addition to this, the neuronavigation system was also used. Thanks to such technological equipment, we were able to avoid touching the aforementioned structures and zones and to remove the patient without any neurological deficit. " - shared the patient's attending physician - Dr. Tleubergenov Muratbek .

It should be noted that this operation is a high-tech medical service. For the patient, it was passed free of charge under a quota, within the framework of the compulsory health insurance. The possibility of a favorable outcome with such interventions can be achieved only in highly specialized centers with modern diagnostic and operating equipment, and the availability of specialists.

The operation was performed by doctors with many years of experience. These are the head of the department of brain neurosurgery, candidate of medical sciences, professor of JSC "NCN" Dr. Nurzhan Ryskeldiev and neurosurgeon Dr. Tleubergenov Muratbek , as well as anesthesiologist - resuscitation specialist Dr. Nurdinov Mars and operating nurse Rosa Shaauetova.
