Neurosurgery is on the rise

Saturday,  15  Июнь  2013

With the creation of a medical cluster in the capital of Kazakhstan, complicated neurosurgical operations became available: it is the evaluation of the development of the service by the leading international experts in the field of medicine. Siegfried Vogel, Professor, Head of Department of Neurosurgery Mayo Clinic (Germany): - During the Second Congress of Neurosurgeons within the master class in Astana I spent several operations on my topic (it is neurosurgery of skull base tumors), among my patients here were adults and children. Always difficult for the surgeon to work outside their home clinic in an unfamiliar environment, but when I operated in the Republican Research Center for Neurosurgery, I had a good feeling as if I am at home. Modern equipment, comfortable operating, we found a common language with colleagues and medical staff, so I can honestly say that I enjoyed it here. I note that this is my first visit to Kazakhstan and the first encounter with the Center for Neurosurgery. And when I walked on it, I was very impressed: this Center is really doing your country a leader of neurosurgery in the region. Clinic in terms of equipment and organization of the work meets the highest international standards. By the way, I noticed another important point, which I was pleased, if in Europe the patient after the operation is sent to the rehabilitation to another clinic, then in your center these two directions - neurorehabilitation and neurosurgery – are combined, and it allows achieving very good results in the recovery of patients. I generally positively surprised by the exceptional success in neurosurgery, which your country has made in a short period of time. From the director of the clinic Serik Akshulakov I met only here, but before we contacted remotely, and on his initiative in our clinic in 2004, was trained Dr. Serik Karibay (Head of the Department of General Neurosurgery of the RRCN). Having been in Astana and getting acquainted with the activities of the Republican Research Center for Neurosurgery, I see very promising the mutual work with this clinic for the treatment of brain tumors. This Center has great opportunities in terms of integration into the international development of neurosurgery in a number of perspective areas. Because, the Center has the excellent conditions for that. Gert SPINSMAYL, Professor, University Hospital Maastricht (Netherlands): - We cooperate with the Republican Research Center for Neurosurgery for several years and regularly invite doctors to familiarize themselves with the new methods of neuromodulation. And I note a high level of both clinics and neurosurgeons themselves. We are interested in the experience of Kazakhstan doctors in terms of organization of the clinic, the interaction between the neurosurgical departments and hospitals across the country. It is important that our colleagues are always seeking primarily to achieve the best results for the patient. We live in Europe, at a high level and the life, and at the same time have high cost performance balance between the treatment and the result value for the patient. Michael GAAB, Professor (Hanover, Germany): - We have a close partnership with the Center for Neurosurgery. We operated on several patients, and I'm glad that everyone is healthy, they have formed a normal life. I am glad to cooperate with Professor Akshulakov, especially proud of my young colleagues, who masterfully operate endoscopically. I think in the future we will work even more intensively, because highly specialized medical care in Kazakhstan is one of the most promising areas for development. The only thing you need to send a force is a further specialization of doctors. And it is necessary to study in depth the international language – English. Alexei Shkarubo, Leading Researcher of the Institute of Neurosurgery, N. Burdenko RAMS: - For the first time I visited Kazakhstan five years ago, when in Almaty we gave lectures to colleagues with Professor Leonid Likhterman. Two and a half years ago in Astana, I spent a master class in surgery of the skull base tumors using transnasal access. Then it was carried out nine operations, and now they put on a stream, and as far as I can judge from publications already held about a hundred of these interventions. I can clearly say that the Center can compete with the world's leading clinics in Israel, the United States, and our institute. Wonderful facility, which employs highly qualified people, and on the best equipment which are now in the world. Evgeniy Pedachenko, chief neurosurgeon of Ukraine: - Condition of Kazakhstan neurosurgical service I regard as very progressive. And its development is regular and goes in several directions. This is primarily the creation of the superbly equipped Center for Neurosurgery, which employs mostly young doctors who are most susceptible to the introduction of new high-tech methods. The system of training doctors in the leading hospitals around the world and an invitation of the leaders of European neurosurgery also should be mentioned. In addition, the service is headed by the very competent, reputable, highly skilled professional who is a fan of the development of neurosurgery. The combination of the governmental sector, the experience of the older generation and the energy of youth determines the prospects of active development of the neurosurgical service.
