A resident of Nur-Sultan city began to notice a deterioration in her health a month ago - unsteady gait, a sharp visual impairment, severe headaches, dizziness, nausea and general weakness.

The condition of the pregnant woman deteriorated sharply a week ago. The woman was taken by ambulance to municipal hospital No.2, where they performed an MRI of her brain. During the examination, a 32-year-old pregnant woman was diagnosed with a brain tumor.

Then the patient was hospitalized at the National Center for Neurosurgery in the Department of Neurosurgery for Brain Pathology. The doctors of the National Center for Neurosurgery immediately gathered a council to discuss the tactics of treatment and all possible risks for the mother and child. The woman's gestational age at the time of hospitalization barely exceeded 26 weeks. Diagnosis "Tumor of the cerebellopontine angle on the left with cerebral pressure in the stage of clinical decompensation, internal occlusive hydrocephalus."

“We performed an emergency operation on the patient with closed external unloading drainage according to Arendt on the left, and then microsurgical removal of the tumor of the cerebellar pontine angle using neuromonitoring. A huge tumor measuring 5 * 5.5 cm squeezed the brain, as a result of which the woman's vision began to deteriorate, unsteadiness of gait and other disorders appeared. The complexity of the operation was that the tumor was squeezing the brain stem, in such cases it is very important not to damage the vital areas of the brain,” said neurosurgeon Dr. Tleubergenov Muratbek.

A multidisciplinary team of doctors worked in the emergency operation, which included the most experienced anesthesiologists, neurophysiologists, transfusiologists, who monitored the entire operation. Also, the operation was carried out under the control of fetal CTG in order to constantly conduct a functional assessment of the state of the fetus and its heartbeat. Specialists of the National Scientific Center for Motherhood and Childhood provided great assistance in this.

“I want to thank the doctors for performing such a complicated operation on me. They all worried about me, there was anxiety in saving my life and my child. It's good that I live in the capital city, where the Center for Neurosurgery is located, and the operation went very quickly, on an emergency basis. Now I hope for a quick recovery, my vision has already begun to recover. Little by little I began to walk. Thank you very much to everyone who took part in the operation and in saving my life and my baby.” - shared the patient.

The operation lasted about 5 hours and was successful, this operation was carried out for the patient free of charge. The complex operation was performed by Dr. Nurzhan Ryskeldiev, Head of the Department of Brain Neurosurgery, Dr. Muratbek Tleubergenov, Neurosurgeon, Dr. Orazgali Kurmanbaev, Anaesthesiologist, Dr. Saule Uteuova, Neurophysiologist, and Dr. Berik Primbetov, Head of the Obstetrics Department of NSCMC.

The patient's condition after the operation is satisfactory, she feels well, she was transferred to the ward.

According to doctors, now nothing threatens the life of mother and baby, the woman continues to bear the child.
