Doctors of the National Center for Neurosurgery saved a woman from the Kostanay region from disability. A tumor the size of an apple was found in the woman’s head, which compressed the frontoparietal lobe and in places connected closely to the cerebral cortex. The patient sought advice from the National Center for Neurosurgery. The woman complained of weakness in the left limbs and decreased motor activity, as well as seizures.
NCN specialists identified neurological disorders in the patient, after which they performed an MRI scan of the brain. MRI showed the presence of a giant neoplasm in the frontoparietal lobe of the right hemisphere of the brain with a diameter of 10*9.5*10 cm. The growth of the tumor could lead to disability.
The patient’s clinical case was discussed by the NCN doctors. Considering the progression of the disease, it was decided to perform microsurgical removal of a giant convexital meningioma.
The patient was operated on by doctors from the Department of Neurosurgery for Brain Pathology. As neurosurgeon Dr. Muratbek Tleubergenov noted, the complexity of the operation was influenced by the huge size of the tumor.
“In addition to the fact that the tumor was gigantic in size, the location of the tumor was difficult to access - next to the functional areas. As a result, the woman developed complications in the form of left-sided hemiparesis of the lower extremities and seizures. But despite the complexity of the operation, our team completely removed the tumor from vital centers, brain vessels and healthy brain tissue. A neuronavigation system was used during the operation, as well as fluorescent diagnostics. This allowed us to operate safely and effectively even in difficult anatomical conditions,” noted Dr. Muratbek Tleubergenov.
The operation was successful, doctors removed the tumor completely and were able to preserve functional areas and avoid possible neurological complications and disability. As the patient notes, the condition improved after the operation, the neurology regressed - strength appeared in the lower extremities, and overall health improved.
“I came from Lisakovsk, I’m 44 years old, I have two children. For a long time I was treated for osteochondrosis, over the last few months my legs began to walk poorly, I began to fall, and daily cramps appeared. The doctors sent me to the National Center for Neurosurgery. Here, after conducting an MRI and CT scan of the brain, they quickly identified my problem. They found a tumor of almost 10 cm. In my case, only surgery was required. I trusted the doctors completely. I am grateful to every specialist of this Center. The people who work here are sincere, responsive, and attentive. The young nurses are very caring and treat patients with great warmth. The doctors are wonderful, I haven’t met such kind people as here for a long time. In turn, as a mother, as a patient, I want to thank every employee of this Center for the successful operation they performed on me. I feel great relief, a clear mind and a great mood.” - shared patient Marina Kovalenko.
The operation was carried out within the framework of healthcare insurance, by a team of the best specialists of the National Center, namely: neurosurgeon of the Department of Neurosurgery of Brain Pathology Dr. Muratbek Tleubergenov, Dr. Arman Makarov, anesthesiologist-resuscitator Dr. Raushan Tokshekenova, anesthetist Zhanar Arinova, operating nurse Asem Kadyrkhanova.
