A high-tech brain tumor removal surgery via a transnasal approach was successfully performed at the National Center for Neurosurgery on a patient from Ukraine who was undergoing treatment at the Center. The surgical intervention for the foreign patient was carried out on a paid basis.Taking into account the tumor’s location and clinical indications, a decision was made to perform a modern minimally invasive surgical procedure. The operation was conducted using an endoscopic transnasal transsphenoidal approach — through the nasal cavity, without external incisions or traumatic access to the brain structures.
The surgery was performed by neurosurgeon Dr. Daniyar Teltayev, Head of the Department for Organizational and Methodological Work with Regions, Candidate of Medical Sciences, Professor at JSC “National Center for Neurosurgery.” The operation was completed successfully and without complications.
“Transnasal access is one of the most effective and safe methods for removing skull base tumors and pituitary adenomas. This method has been widely used in neurosurgery for decades and continues to be refined. At the National Center for Neurosurgery, it has been in use since 2008, with approximately 200 such surgeries performed annually. For foreign patients, surgical treatment is provided on a paid basis. For citizens of the Republic of Kazakhstan, these operations are performed under the state quota within the framework of the Mandatory Social Health Insurance system (MSHI),” noted Daniyar Teltayev.
Development of High-Tech Care and Medical Tourism
This clinical case demonstrates the capabilities of the National Center for Neurosurgery in providing high-tech neurosurgical care, including to foreign patients. To date, more than 500 foreign citizens have received treatment at the Center, and this number continues to grow annually. The geography of patients includes Russia, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Turkey, Azerbaijan, Ukraine, Georgia, Germany, the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Nigeria, Canada, Belarus, and other countries.
