In accordance with the Order of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan “On Approval of the Rules for Awarding Degrees,” neurosurgeon Chingiz Nurimanov has been awarded a PhD degree without a traditional dissertation — based on a series of publications in leading peer-reviewed scientific journals.

He became the first doctoral candidate in the history of Astana Medical University to complete his studies through an external (accelerated) format.

His doctoral research was conducted under a consortium agreement with the National Center for Neurosurgery, under the supervision of Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor, Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Serik Akshulakov.

His academic portfolio includes six articles published in high-impact international peer-reviewed journals: five in Q1-ranked journals and one in Q2 (according to Journal Citation Reports, Web of Science). Specializing in vascular and functional neurosurgery, he published 21 scientific articles during his doctoral studies (2021–2024), 14 of which are indexed in Scopus and Web of Science, and in nine of them he is the first author. In addition, he fulfilled all requirements to obtain the academic title of Associate Professor. Nine articles have been published on the topic of his dissertation, and one copyright certificate has been obtained.

He has also participated in international scientific projects. From 2023 to 2025, he has been a research fellow in the project “Study of Germline and Somatic Mutations in Intracranial Arteriovenous Malformations” (Grant AP19678106, Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan). From 2025 to 2027, he serves as the principal investigator of a project studying brain aneurysm volume reduction and its long-term shrinkage after combined endovascular interventions (ClinicalTrials.gov ID: NCT06541275).

We congratulate our colleague and wish him continued success in strengthening the scientific potential of Kazakhstan.
