Transfusiology department

The transfusiology department stores and issues components of donor blood. The department offers the following services:

  • determination of blood group and Rh factor, antibody screening. Reliable diagnostics of blood group and Rh factor, detection of antibodies are necessary for timely decision-making in a critical situation and will help preserve the health and life of the patient;
  • determination of compatibility according to the ABO system and Rh factor using monoclonal reagents and the method of microtyping gel serology. A test for individual compatibility allows you to make sure that the donor's red blood cells are compatible with the biological characteristics of the recipient's blood;
  • intraoperative hardware reinfusion of red blood cells. Blood-saving technology is a modern, highly effective and safe method of returning your own red blood cells lost during blood loss.

The blood room is equipped with modern equipment: the DiaMed microtyping gel serology system, specialized Angelatoni Industrie refrigerators, CytoTherm - DR plasma defrosting devices, and the CATS plus Fresenius autohemotransfusion device.

The department was the first to introduce into neurosurgical practice the use of fibrin glue in endoscopic transnasal transsphenoidal surgery for hemostasis and sealing of the skull base, the use of intraoperative hardware reinfusion of erythrocytes as a method of blood conservation, the use of microtyping gel technology as a serology method for determining blood groups, Rh factors, antibody screening and compatibility testing.

The department staff carries out:

  • monitoring the organization of transfusion therapy in the medical departments of the Center;
  • daily macroscopic monitoring of the blood stored in the room, its components, determining their suitability for use;
  • monitoring the correctness of recording indications when prescribing transfusion agents by attending physicians;
  • analysis of the condition and effectiveness of transfusion therapy.

Twice a year, the transfusion department organizes the events "Donor Day", "Give Hope for Life" with the participation of the Center's employees. Agitation work is carried out among relatives, friends and acquaintances of patients to involve them in the ranks of donors.
